School Field Trips in Southern Illinois: A Hands-On Farm Experience for Schools at The Patch

If you’re looking for a field trip that’s organized, educational, and actually fun, you’re in the right place. We host one school or group at a time so your students get a full experience, without feeling rushed or lost in the crowd.

What to Expect at The Patch on a School Field Trips in Southern Illinois

Field trips at The Patch are designed to be hands-on, engaging, and easy for teachers to manage. Your students will learn, explore, and leave with memories they’ll talk about for weeks.

Your Field Trip Includes:

  • Hayride

  • Kids play area

  • Pumpkin decorating

  • Pumpkin life cycle lesson

  • Meet and feed our goats

  • Mini pumpkin to take home

After the lesson, we also go hands-on in the field to find and see what we talked about—so kids aren’t just hearing it, they’re experiencing it.

What Makes Our Field Trips Special

One School at a Time

We only book one school or group at a time, so you’re not competing for space, attention, or activities. It’s calmer, smoother, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Truly Educational

This isn’t just “show up and play.” We take pride in teaching kids where things come from and making learning feel real.

Organized and Stress-Free

We’ll help keep things flowing with smooth rotations, so your group can focus on fun, learning, and making memories.

Treated Like Family

From the moment you arrive, we want you to feel welcome. Teachers, parents, and students are treated with care and respect—because that’s how it should be.

Pricing

  • $5 per child for groups of 20 or more

  • Flat rate of $100 for groups under 20 children

How Long Does a Field Trip Last?

Field trips run about 2 hours, which includes rotations through activities and time for snacks or lunch if you’d like.

Snacks & Lunches

Absolutely! Your group is welcome to bring snacks or sack lunches.

Important: If you’d like to use our picnic areas, they must be requested in advance. Sometimes groups arrive expecting space, but tables may already be reserved for another scheduled group.

Booking & Scheduling

How do I book a field trip?

To reserve your date, call Samantha at 440-376-0160. We recommend booking early, spots fill up fast!

How far in advance should we book?

As soon as possible. Fall dates fill up quickly, especially in October. Reach out early to secure your preferred day.

Do you host more than one school at a time?

Nope! We book one school or group at a time, so your students get our full attention and plenty of space to explore.

Weather Policy

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll work with you to reschedule. Your group’s safety and experience are our top priorities.

Group Size

We can accommodate groups both large and small. For groups under 20, the flat rate applies. For larger groups, we’ll help arrange smooth rotations.

Chaperones & Supervision

Teachers and chaperones are responsible for supervising students during the visit. We recommend at least one teacher per class (or an appropriate adult ratio) so students stay accounted for throughout rotations and activities.
